Sorry, my thoughts scattered when I had to trim my 300 word post down to 74.
We could always start a state run covert coyote operation and use the $2500 a head to put the arts back into public schools.

You need not start a COVERT coyote operation. There is a rather prolific one in place already! And, judging from the RAMOS and COMPEAN case (you can read about it OTHER HOT BLARGUMENTS: RAMOS & COMPEAN), at least to some extent, the U.S. condones it! Now: one of Barns' egghead friends babbles incontrollably about immigration: close the borders, make all illegals already here - all 20 Million of them - citizens, collect taxes from them. NOW: THAT MONEY YOU CAN SPEND ON EDUCATION. The $2,500.00 fine, THAT YOU WILL NEVER SEE! Hmmm. Upon reflection, would you ever see any new tax revenue spent on education? Nah ....

Barns ( 939 posts / 24 fights ) from Den Of Ubiquity, California (United States) on 02/16 at 02:45PM PT

You're right, an fine would never be collected; but the $2500 a head is what the coyote collects before he brings the person over the boarder. Now if we were the ones collecting this every time an illegal crossed it would add up. - Let the ones already here stay, but I don't think their taxes are going to add up to as much as you think. Many if not most get paychecks, under bad ss #s, but payroll checks that have income tax taken out. Where we are losing the money is in things like uninsured vehicles and medical treatments, or in the fact that we have to spend our educational monies teaching English to the kids. Did you know that when an illegal is caught for drunk driving we pay for him to serve time here in jail before we ship him back?

Lets add up YOUR ideas with a touch up or two: 1. Let those here stay and make them legal. Compel them to be legal. Then we collect taxes. 2. Shut down the border completely. Charge $2,500.00 for entry visas AND make them all citizens for $2,500.00. 3. Find a way to stop transfers of funds from illegals to Mexico. Throw Mexico into catastrophic economic disaster: illegals' funds sent from U.S. to Mexico is the second largest component of the Mexican economy. 3. We invade Mexico without any resistance. Why? For oil of course. This is a silly Barns musing. What politician would actually vote for closing the illegal flood of cheap labor and charging the same people for entry causing wages for low end jobs to increase? That is darned near un-American! You might want to check your email address. Barns' email to you bounces...

No touch-ups please; I’m more of an oh-natural kind of gal. Go ahead and legalize those who hold steady jobs. Before becoming citizens can we make sure they understand English & save money on foreign language publications? Be ready for higher consumer prices though. Like any good American, my boss isn’t giving up profits to increase wages or benefits for somebody just because he holds a real SS#. Leave the boarders lone. Nobody new gets across; WE just become the coyote and collect money under the table. (less red tape, won’t cost much). Even better, now that the lucky became citizens we can ignore those religious, righteous protestors and make raids. This will send the illegal back to Mexico to wait for their US citizen relatives to pay for the coyote (more money for us) to cross them once again.
I got emails, I would never bounce BARNS!

Now. You just made Barns' day! You would "never bounce Barns ..." You have to get the logistics right, Burgie! Remember: our world runs on logistics (ahem ... bureaucracies). If you take CASH under the table, then the feds. will create a suplemental Revenue Agency to account for that! And your taxes rise some more. You and I agree on at least one thing: anything we might do that is LOGICAL wIll raise labor rates! And that is likely why nothiing meaningful will be done in the foreseeable future! Read RAMOS AND COMPEAN on Ctoads! There is a clear case of the feds. NOT wanting to close the borders. The only way to close them is to levy heavy fines on employers of illegals. And then ... we will need a HUGE bureaucracy to police that. So ... lettuce will be more expensive and taxes higher!

I would actually eat more and pay more for salad if I thought some of the employers I know would get any real reprimand for how they work the system and the immigrants. Heck, I would consider becoming a vegetarian if it would put some of the welfare recipients in the fields instead of in line waiting for a check. Imagine the possibility of saving tax dollars! You're right though, with the current system we have that helps keep people from working for a living, think of what it would take to put those people to work. I’ll think about it over my steak and lobster dinner.

burgermiester ( 86 posts / 5 fights ) from CAMARILLO, California (United States) on 02/27 at 12:03PM PT

Don't know if I should hug you or give you a tap on the back of the head. Figuratively, of course. How avant garde: putting welfare recepients to work! Un-American! You recall the experiments of years now in "letting" welfare recepients help build housing for themselves. THERE ARE TOO MANY WHO LEGITIMATELY SHOULD BE RECEPIENTS OF OUR HELP! BUT NOT ALL. Ask yourself: 1. pick lettuce for $x/hr or 2. pick up check for the same amount of pay and not pick lettuce. Meaningful short term welfare reform is about as realistic as finding and deporting 12-20,000,000 illegal immigrants. Now: do you have some REAL solutions for Barns to consider? Or ... are you reading pearls of wisdom off the back page of a menu in a haughty restaurant? How about a couple late shifts in a soup kitchen after your lobster? YOU BRING SOME SOUP !

Hey! Did you see Bush's latest? Kick them all out, charge them $3500 to get back in on a three year work visa and $10,000 for citizenship? Bet you didn’t know I was a presidential advisor did you? Neither did I.

You appear to be a loooot of things, including bright and entertaining. What a lovely plan, though! Couple of minor things missing: HOW THE HELL DO YOU EXPELL 15 MILLION PEOPLE? Oh ... A rare Barns non sequitor. GOTTA FIND THEM FIRST!Sounds like a new Reagan plan. Forget the past and start mucking up the future from scratch! If the plan was workable (not in any reasonable lifetime), it would destroy MEXICO. Imagine, just imagine the absurd: "x" million folks decide to pony up the $3,500.00. All that HAS TO COME BACK from Mexico. That little event, along with the slow-down of "The Exodus Of The Hardcore Unemployed" from Mexico would bankrupt it! Harsh reality. Do not be confused: Barns has extensive experience with the Mexican people and culture. Loves the people! Great work ethic, very respectful when earned and reciprocated, wrongly stereotyped. And likely needed here....
