WOULD YOU BUY A USED PRESIDENT ??
IF NOT, WHY WOULD YOU SETTLE FOR A DEFAULT PRESIDENT ??
THE STATE OF THINGS
1. War in Iraq, Afghanistan...
2. Flashing yellow lights in Iran, No. Korea, the Balkans, Gaza/Israel, Lebanon, Africa ...
3. U.S. economy in a funk...
4. Geo-political minefields everywhere...
5. U.S. energy reliance a troublesome as ever....
6. And .....
CAN THE U.S. AFFORD A DEFAULT PRESIDENT ??
McCAIN
Will never get over:
1. McCain/Kennedy (amnesty)immigration bill.
2. McCain/Feinegold “campaign reform” bill.
3. No knowledge (yet) of economics and policies.
4. Familiar (Bush) take on Iraq.
5. Not bible-freak.
6. Not for women's rights over their bodies.
7. And ...
OBAMA
1. No experience.
2. Ill prepared.
3. No core relevant competencies.
4. Media and celebrity creation.
5. No knowledge of history, thus no “must have” perspective.
6. Clueless about the rest of the world, including reading a map of the world.
7. And ...
CLINTON
1. Clinton (Bill) and Bush, all over again.
2. Runs on canned message and expediency alone.
3. No relevant experience; some peripheral (by osmosis, can be asserted...).
4. Bill sock puppet or Bill is total influencer.
5. And ...
CAN THE U.S. AFFORD A DEFAULT PRESIDENT ??

You have to give Hilary credit for one thing ,She's proved she isn't a quitter (unlike Romney) I haven't heard how any of the candidates are going to deal with the wars that George got you into , I would have thought that would be the top issue in deciding who gets the job!!

Regrettably, they are clueless. They all prefer to give the grandiose speeches. Obama is winning the "BEST SPEECH WRITERS" category thus far.
Barns' plan is starting to look more and more on point ...

I have a number of problems with this statement Barnes. I guess we're head to the alley yet again.

This is very critical of at least 2 good candidates. Both CLinton and Obama are credible candidates. They will surround themselves with quality advisors. Anything is better than what we have now.

You are joking, right? Obama needs ad advisor to show him where Pakistan is on the map. You want him making decisions on world affairs or you want him to just follow advice from the people that he has to give jobs to after making campaign promises.

Barnes, I understand that you feel as though these presidential hopefuls are not exactly F.D.R. or Lincoln but you have to admit that these candidates do have some strengths and admirable qualities in terms of becoming president. But like F.D.R. and Lincoln each candidate has the unique and rarer opportunity to become a great leader because of the current troubled atmosphere in the global arena.

on 02/11 at 01:14PM PTPerhaps .... under LESS troubled circumstances.
The demands on and of leadership in this office are enormous, under all circumstances. Barns fears that if the next president of the U.S. requires "on-the-job-training," the consequences may be untenable.
The billion+ sworn enemies of our country are likely to understand one thing above anything else: fear. Our allies, regrettably few, comprehend only one thing: their safety as that is inexorably tied to our strength.

Once again I have to respectful disagree because all presidents have to be trained on the job as their is no job on earth that can prepare one for that office. In this election we at least have two candidates (Obama and Clinton) who at least recognize that these are extremely troubled times and need the utmost attention. How under less circumstances could they be great leader when troubled circumstance often define great leaders

on 02/12 at 04:31PM PTYou are accurate, as a fundamental concept goes.
Barns is deeply troubled that neither of the two Dem. candidates has adequate experience in foreign affairs. Arguably - ARGUABLY - Clinton (H) might have absorbed some knowledge in 8 years of proximity to the Presidency. On the other hand, given Clinton's (Bill) behavior in the White House, it is a fair assumption that Hillary and Bill did not do a lot of talking for a number of years.
The ascendancy of Obama to the Presidency is truly disturbing. As recently as a few weeks ago, he did not know where Pakistan was .
Barns prefers his President to be as skilled and experienced as the Surgeon who may have to operate on him to save his life or the pilot who flies the 747 he is traveling on.

I think we all want a President would is extremely experience in all areas of the world. However, only the presidential office can give one that kind experience (thus the reason people like to vote for an incumbent). The most important thing in this campaign is that the new President recognizes that many of the current problems are deeply rooted and cannot be solved by merely addressing them at face value.

Who was a skilled President? Nixon? He had more experience than Kennedy. Was he a better President?

on 03/08 at 09:25AM PTAs a practical matter, as domestic and international affairs accomplishments, he was. Regrettably he was also a very flawed person, in many way. His "arrogance of power" severely hurt the office he held.
He should have been jailed for all that.
Jerry Ford, Barns had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him, was focused on stopping the "national bleeding." In the process, he diminished the very office he sought to protect.
