NEW BLOODSHED !
Barns FEARS SIGNIFICANT BLOODSHED TO COME IN TIBET!
The world is about to see the NEW China do things the OLD way!
It is very likely that the Tibetan movement for some/any form of independence will be met with brutal and bloody oppression reminiscent of the CULTURAL REVOLUTION that has enjoyed the contempt of all fairness loving people in the world!
Damned be the political fallout that may hit the Olympics. China is and will be the same China that we have come to love the past two centuries.
Barns believes that as to anybody boycotting the Olympics, CHINA CARES ... BUT NOT THAT MUCH!
What? You are going to start looking at labels in your clothes and on the products you buy? You are going to give away everything "Made In China?" You are not going to buy anything that is "Made In China?" With the dollar hitting an all-time low in the world?
Barns will buy a ticket to see that !!!
So much for SITUATIONAL ETHICS !!
Yeah... And at this rate, Sunday night Chinese dinner will be as cheap as it is filling. Not ....

Some major disruptions took place during the running of the torch in London and Paris. I wonder how their government will explain that one. I don't think they are very good at PR because of the lack any political debate process. The torch is coming to SF soon - interesting to see what will happen then.

on 04/11 at 01:09PM PTYou "kinda" projected what would happen in S.F.
Lots of noise, a somewhat skitzo city leadership wanting to protect whoever had anything to do with or say about the Olympics, and so on. Same in Buenos Aires today.
Naive to think that anything Olympics related would sway the Chinese from likely annihilation of dissent on their soil.
It just "ain't them" to do otherwise.
Agree??

on 04/05 at 08:37AM PT'Grizz' ... A theoretical question for you.
Can a nation, any nation, that joins the ECONOMIC WORLD = it becomes intertwined both as a supplier and consumer of goods with the rest of the world, thumb its nose at all "rules of behavior" of all relevant nations?
Can China take the position that "you all can sell us goods or buy our goods if you want to, but you cannot dictate to us how we run our own country?"
I know.... I know..... You are going to give me back some of my own rhetoric on Russia. The BIG difference is made by the ability - or not - of any nation to thrive on its own natural resources. Like Russia might and the U.S. can.
Some 'Grizz' words of wisdom on this would be welcome.

You are acutely on point - we here in the US have too much vested and buy too many "made in China" products to turn our backs on China. Can the Dali Lama really be of any help - will the Chinese authorities allow him to be heard. More blood will be shed before there is a resolution to yet another major strife in our all too hostile world.

I am surprised about this topic. Does anybody in the world believe that China is changing its political underside? Silly idea.

I think this post is on point. I also think that the world will see China for what it is once their army starts killing many, many Tibetan monks. They are just as ruthless as they ever were. They just have more Western conveniences to point to. I don't think that makes for a healthy and free society.
