The HISTORY CHANNEL ON DR. MLK: SHAMELESS PANDERING!

The TOM BROKAW SPECIAL ON Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is regrettably tainted by shameless pandering by The HISTORY CHANNEL.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a remarkable man in all ways. He has been and will always be a hero to all thinking people around the entire world.

Shame on The HISTORY CHANNEL for the way they promoted this important T.V. special. Their radio commercial evoked how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s words resonate to this day.

AND, REMARKABLY, USED A SOUND CLIP BY BARACK OBAMA QUOTING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. TO ILLUSTRATE THAT!!

Could The HISTORY CHANNEL not find any original audio of Dr. King?

Did they think that Obama quoting Dr. King would somehow make Dr. King's words more relevant?

SHAME ON YOU! All you did is diminish the memory of Dr. King, a genuinely accomplished, thoughtful leader and man of vision.

Shame on you!

Something that has puzzled me for a while is WHY do most of the American Reality and Doco channels (History,Nat Geo,Discovery etc) make these shows that point out the worst of America?? If these people are to be believed the U.S. is home to a group of mindless murdering thugs chase by a bunch of ego fueled cops ...

...What about the good things that happen there. It's no wonder no one really trusts the US. If I hadn't actually lived there for 6 years I'd believe the place was a land of evil, where you are liable to be shot and killed by a trigger happy cop or a psycho killer at any time.

poor judgment on the History channel. Possibly in an effort to get more viewership from a younger audience, the history channel used sound bites from Obama rather than the original speeches. Kids now days don't understand TV that is not in color.

Sorry for what I am about to write. So many of you come across as political virgins. What new do you see in a TV network promoting a political agenda? Are NBC, MSNBC, CBS, FOX and the rest any different? This is not any different.

      You are on point, 'chem'.

This just struck Barns as particularly distasteful. And even more so having just spent a bushel of night-time hours re-reading Dr. MLK's speeches.

Was also somewhat troubled by some assertions made by MLK, 3rd. He did not serve his father's memory entirely well. A bit of fact checking might have gone a long way....

It sounds like the History channel was promoting Obama. What exactly is wrong with that?

You know ... a [NON] equivalency comes to mind.

Try this on for size ...

"You, Senator [Obama], are no Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Can anybody make a parallel between Dr. MLK, Jr. and Barack Obama?

The same Barack Obama that had to be dragged kicking and screaming to [not really] repudiate the racist, separatist, hate-the-white-U.S. Reverend Wright's oft "sermons?"

The same Barack Obama who made 1 (ONE) speech on race, strictly as self-defense?

Shamefully diminishes Dr. MLK, Jr., a genuine American hero.

You people are naive. You are singling out The History Channel for shamelessly plugging Obama. Please make a list of media outlets that are unbiassed.

I agree with you Barns, the promotion was done in very poor taste. Almost seems like the producers were too lazy to look thru the archives for the appropriate background. Or should we all misconstrue that the station is promoting Obama for the democratic nominee. Hopefully the powers that be at the station have a conscience about it and reprimand the appropriate staff. They owe an apology to the King family!

You may be right. I don't think that. The History Channel is not some ordinary cable outlet. They have plenty historical context. What they don't have is any sense of propriety. It is a shame that they take the anniversary of Dr. MLK's passing to campaign for Obama. My post has nothing to do with Obama. Shame on the History Channel.

THIS TOPIC IS NOT ABOUT BARACK OBAMA.

It is about a cable network who took the most callous opportunity to promote Obama.
