HEAVY PEOPLE TO PAY EXTRA TO GET ON AIRPLANES!

IMAGINE THIS CONVERSATION:

Airline employee: Hi. Our KX17-4 SCANNER shows that you are 17.2 LBS over the ideal weight we require of our passengers. We need to collect $168.63 from you before you can board this flight to Akron, Ohio.

Funny? Far fetched?

NO! The airline industry is looking into precisely such a plan.

They already compel obese people to buy two seats if they want to get on their planes.

Can you imagine what would happen if some misguided airline would weigh Barns without HIS EXPRESSED CONSENT?

Likely somebody would end up in INTENSIVE CARE and somebody WOULD GET ARRESTED. And a rousing chorus of satisfaction from personal injury and constitutional lawyers would be heard worldwide.

Of course, this being the ever-inventive U.S.A., Barns is already working on THE AIRLINE DIET.

Wonder: does that mean that anorexic would-be entertainment personalities might be able to FLY FREE?

What Do You Think?

This has nothing to do with personal injury, constitutional wrong doings or anything of the sort. This is just another incident where the truth is not being taken into full account. What the airlines are doing now, such as limiting snacks, bags, and other services to passengers, is just trying to cope with a problem rather then take action against it. What is this truth ? FOSSIL FUEL PRICES.

It seems a natural progression from $ for your ticket, then $ for your baggage, then $ for that heinous sandwich from the cart, and now $ penalty for not hitting the gym. To counter these increases I propose a list of chores one could perform to decrease ticket prices such as a half hour of flight attending, or flight announcement duties. How bout baggage lugging, ticket collection or even plane washing.

Obesity is rising at an epidemic rate. Higher than 30% of Americans are overweight. Obviously the airlines have done their homework, reaching the conclusion that they could generate revenue off of a scheme of this nature. Just like their no liquid carry-on ploy that slowly turned into charging money per checked bag… all neglecting their offensive and humiliating tactics.

If i remember correctly the airlines have dropped the buy 2 seats for the obese out of political correctness. Last time I was on a plane i got stuck between two fatties and I swear to you i had less than 1/2 a seat to sit in on a packed flight. The two fatties refused to relenquish their seats. So I was forced to sit in a jump seat. Let them pay.

You poor fellow. My heart is bleeding for your troubles. The 2 "fatties", I gather, could not relinquish their seats for lack of anywhere else to sit. You poor dear had to seat on a jump seat to make way for two less fortunate people. Might be that you should have charged them for the help you gave them. I bet you asked for a free ticket from the airline.

Yes I was reimbersed and received a free round trip ticket. But what bothered me the most is that these 2 people felt that they were in the total right. "It wasn't their fault" It was the airlines for not providing big enough seats and they showed no remorse for me having to sit on a small jump seat. The world revolved around them do to the gravitatonial pull of their size.

I did post on this topic when it first appeared, but I felt compelled to post again. This is not only outrageous, but it is degrading, humiliating, and inhuman. Need I go on! I love my country and I'm thankful for all the wonderful conveniences we have here, but come on now! The airline industry can find a better way to deal with the ever increasing price of gasoline!

Perhaps we need to get an education on where the bulk of airline revenues come from. The plane you are on, is likely to generate far more revenue from the freight it carries (not your bags) than the passengers. That is accurate for long haul carriers. Less so for short haul regionals. In any event, why not weigh us? The TSA already has "see-thru" gear that can be used.

I think that people who are obese should pay more based on weight. I think it should be based on some ratio of height to weight but not the bmi scale. That's an insane measurement, but there are other measurements that could be used. Viva la thin because fat is not where it's at.

Have read ahead on the posts. Interesting and high octane. I am just wondering if once on an airplane, assuming one can "make the weight", will there be a second level of airlines looking out for our best interests? Like flight attendants eyeballing passengers and making in-flight decisions about who should or should not get the mini bag of peanuts?
