HEAVY PEOPLE TO PAY EXTRA TO GET ON AIRPLANES!

IMAGINE THIS CONVERSATION:

Airline employee: Hi. Our KX17-4 SCANNER shows that you are 17.2 LBS over the ideal weight we require of our passengers. We need to collect $168.63 from you before you can board this flight to Akron, Ohio.

Funny? Far fetched?

NO! The airline industry is looking into precisely such a plan.

They already compel obese people to buy two seats if they want to get on their planes.

Can you imagine what would happen if some misguided airline would weigh Barns without HIS EXPRESSED CONSENT?

Likely somebody would end up in INTENSIVE CARE and somebody WOULD GET ARRESTED. And a rousing chorus of satisfaction from personal injury and constitutional lawyers would be heard worldwide.

Of course, this being the ever-inventive U.S.A., Barns is already working on THE AIRLINE DIET.

Wonder: does that mean that anorexic would-be entertainment personalities might be able to FLY FREE?

What Say You?

HEAVY PEOPLE TO PAY EXTRA TO GET ON AIRPLANES!

If i remember correctly the airlines have dropped the buy 2 seats for the obese out of political correctness. Last time I was on a plane i got stuck between two fatties and I swear to you i had less than 1/2 a seat to sit in on a packed flight. The two fatties refused to relenquish their seats. So I was forced to sit in a jump seat. Let them pay.

You poor fellow. My heart is bleeding for your troubles. The 2 "fatties", I gather, could not relinquish their seats for lack of anywhere else to sit. You poor dear had to seat on a jump seat to make way for two less fortunate people. Might be that you should have charged them for the help you gave them. I bet you asked for a free ticket from the airline.

I did post on this topic when it first appeared, but I felt compelled to post again. This is not only outrageous, but it is degrading, humiliating, and inhuman. Need I go on! I love my country and I'm thankful for all the wonderful conveniences we have here, but come on now! The airline industry can find a better way to deal with the ever increasing price of gasoline!

Listen up, fatties, I'm glad the airlines are taking a stand. If you can't say no to those high-flying calories coming your way, then why should the airlines have to fly high with you? Hell, why should I? I certainly don’t want to pay extra in my ticket to cart your ass around the polluted skies. Stop complaining and buy Barnes’s airline diet. Dispensation: medical conditions with a doctor’s note.

I got a bit excited about your post and go myself banned for my language. Barns unbanned me a few minutes ago. I am annoyed by your comment. If you were trying to be funny, you are not. Not everybody has your good luck to be thin and glib at the same time. As a big man, I hate sitting next to people my size because of comfort not because I discriminate.

I wasn't being glib. I was sick of the wining going on. You act like you aren't responsible for your weight. Get over it, you are! My "thinness" is not luck, my friend, it's studied and it's damn hard to do. Most people are overweight b/c they eat too damn much and can't control themselves, emblematic of our overindulgent society. If you and your doctor can't get you stop eating, maybe the airlines can.

          Ouch, Pilgrim.

Let me lay this on you. Barns knows lots of "BIG BOYS" who do not need a doctor's note, neither help from an airline to lose weight. In any event, his "boys'" shoulders are bigger than 98% of the population, their height is greater than 98% of the population and their weight, although a tad challenged, is not much out of "norm." And some of the boys are in perfect proportion and just weight a bunch.

If they cannot afford first class, they should get hosed with ticket prices?

If so, how about YOU tell them about the overweight penalty!

I never said the specifics of the airline idea were right, but the broader concept is. If you guys or gals are height/weight proportionate, to be determined by a normalized scale not accounting for our tendency towards obesity, then you can fight legally to stake your claim as within limits. That's how I answer you, Barnes.

Surely you’re joking. Sensitivity is in order for those spending hours figuring ways to lose weight. For some it is GENETICALLY not as easy. Understandable that you don’t want to pay extra for a ticket, but using such insensitive language like: “cart your ass around.” May consider choosing language a little more wisely? As it is people like you who spark a little phenomenon known as ‘eating disorders’ – google it.

I just deal with it w/out screaming insensitivity like a big baby. You're an adult; if you can be that influenced by the media, perhaps you need some additional help in other areas. Thanks for highlighting the underlying problem: blame. I’ll pass on accepting it.

Funny thing about airlines eyeballing you. I just went thru security at 2 big airports. I dare say most of the TSA inspectors were too large to fly on just one ticket. The Feds cannot discriminate based on physical attributes. There is something very crass about eyeballing somebody for size and then charging them for being heavy. Like cattle going to slaughter.

Worked for an airline years ago and knew dergulation wouldn't work with the airlines. There is not a single industry that has been left to their own in a deregulated atmosphere that has survived. Initally perhaps the profit margins will rise but in the end they fail. Some regulation is need to ensure greedy people like carl Icahn doesn't rape another company and leave it a burned out hulk like TWA was.

MCI didn't die because of deregulation. They imploded because of fraud and bad management.
