PEOPLE GETTING SICK EATING MEXICAN FOOD?? UNHEARD OF!!

IMAGINE THIS: 900 PEOPLE IN THE U.S. GET SICK FROM EATING SALSA! AMAZING ??

Fear no longer: THE FDA AND THE CDC ARE ON THE CASE !!

THIS MAY BE THE SINGULARLY DUMBEST THING I HAVE FOLLOWED THIS YEAR. AND MAY BE THE FUNNIEST!

YES! I feel sorry for the 900 people who appear to have gotten ill from eating SALSA!

BUT.... Here are the symptoms: "In the case of less serious infections there are fewer symptoms - usually only diarrhea two or three times a day for a couple of days. Most mild types of salmonella infection clear up in four to seven days without requiring any treatment other than rest and plenty of liquid." Stuff science fiction is made of, no? Arghhhh...

OK. LETS DO THE MATH!!

1. There are 37 MILLION hispanics of Mexican origin in the U.S. And then there is the rest of us - many millions - who love Mexican food. THAT IS A LOT OF SALSA, every day.

2. I bet that there are MORE THAN 900 AMERICANS, every day, who get really sick from the food and water they ingest while vacationing in Mexico. EVERY DAY! Heck: I see that many people, with those symptoms, at the airport in Cabo San Lucas, every time I pass thru there.

AMAZING STUFF. Somebody call Gene Roddenberry! Stephen King! Michael Crichton! There is a blockbuster movie here!

The fabulous FDA, which by the way, has the most capricious enforcement powers of all agencies in the U.S., is once again talking to the wrong end of the donkey. They rush to PUT THE TOMATO FARMERS OUT OF BUSINESS, WHILE SITTING ENDLESSLY ON LIFE SAVING DRUGS TEST RESULTS.

Imagine that. People getting sick from eating Mexican food.

And our fabulously pro-active feds. jumping in to address the GREAT JALAPENO CAPER.

If only Katrina victims had eaten enough jalapeno peppers.......
