The NEW YORKER HEAPS HUGE NEGATIVES ON OBAMA!
The NEW YORKER magazine cover this morning, with the Obamas in the oval office...
Barrack Obama in traditional Muslim garbs.
Michelle Obama dressed as "terrorist.
Picture of Usama Bin Laden on the wall above the fireplace.
American flag burning in the fireplace.
Supposed to be a "satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create."
If so, why is everybody (OK... the few who have seen advanced copies) characterizing it as "tasteless and offensive"?
As an aside, important one, however, some open admonitions to Senator Obama on the eve of his visit to the Middle East and Europe:
1. You are no Jack Kennedy, Senator. The haughty Europeans will NOT give you a break, earned or not.
2. Make up your mind about "YOUR" Middle East positions, before you get there. That is an unforgiving field of global land-mines.
While we are at it, in the spirit of being equal opportunity critics, an admonition to Senator McCain: Senator. You are no Ronald Reagan.
What Say You?

Bless America! Land of the free! If he and his supporters can’t take it as Senator, What would they do if he were President and open to even more criticism? Maybe we should ban political cartoons like some other country …….. I see the next coverpage as the editors of the New Yorker holding that issue, in front of a firing line, with “President” Obama lighting their last cigarette.

on 07/22 at 03:26AM PTIt is part of the rhapsodic perspective on Obama. He is proffered onto the electorate as a prophet. Thus, unassailable and any criticism of him transcends the man. His feverish supporters have elevated the *man* to iconic stature. How can any rational thinker see Obama as our "savior"?

on 07/22 at 03:26AM PTWhat, EXACTLY, has he done to earn his demi-god status? And what, EXACTLY, will he do for ME as president? Thus far, I see much higher taxes and serious international entertainment, the sarcasm variety, and dismissal.

Come on people it's a cartoon ,Admittedly tasteless and socially irresponsible. But this what happens when you give everyone the right to say what they want when they want with out fear of retribution. By your own Constitution ,nothing is sacred or safe

The magazine has gone too far. However, perhaps the American people will see the Obamas for who they really are and make a better choice come election day.

There is always a large percentage of people who will never get satire. It's a fact. Look at the reception "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift got.

on 07/14 at 08:46PM PT... And a sufficient portion of the constituency will not READ, thus, not get that either.
As satire goes, The NEW YORKER (on Barns' perennial reading list, by the way), ignored the best line on the matter, spoken by that most SAGACIOUS OF ALL PHILOSOPHERS, JAY LENO: "What the hell were you thinking?"
The cover is way too ..... well just "too."

It's not funny. Satire is harder to get when it's not funny. Although, it is provoking a conversation about these false perceptions of Obama, I have a feeling that the people who have these false perceptions would never vote for the guy anyway.

I looked up the magazine cover. I think it is amusing commentary on all that is said about Obama and Mrs. Obama. I don't like the overall characterizations. They are nasty and not called for, although Mrs. Obama is often a very angry militant person.
