YOUR LAPTOP IS GONE!
ARE YOU AWARE THAT WHEN CROSSING A U.S. BORDER, BORDER PATROL OR CUSTOMS (HOMELAND SECURITY) CAN CONFISCATE YOUR LAPTOP AND HOLD ON TO IT FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD OF TIME?
Yes! Under the same theory that has been in existence for over 200 years (they assert), related to searches of luggage and briefcases, according to the DHS.
It can take a looong time to read everything that is on YOUR hard drive. And if you have passwords and encryptions, you have to give those up or ........
Of course, those of you "in the know," can make any data look like a big old stack of DVDs. Still. Your laptop is likely to be elsewhere for a looooooooooooong time.
You thought that paying for water and blankets wold be an inconvenience.
What do you think about this?

Under what circumstance exactly would they confiscate a laptop? What kind of time do they have on their hands that they feel they can actually search through the entire content of a laptop and find information of use to their cause? This is not a progressive move for safety. It is seemingly nothing more than a waste of their time that can be otherwise spent, and a breech of our privacy.

I understand they do a thorough search on your bookmarks and recently viewed items. Those of you pervy types may want to "clear your history" if you want to hold on to your significant others... That said, I still don't understand how computer content is of concern when compared to the really scary things people could try to get on board an airplane. The focus is a little whack on this one....
