The U.S.A. is having a quintessentially Mark Twain experience. In his inimitable words, “The reports of [it’s] death have been greatly exaggerated.”
As it has been for a hundred years, WHEN THE U.S. SNEEZES, THE WORLD CATCHES A COLD! Just ask the big 4 economies of Europe. And Japan, the U.K. AND THE BIG GORRILLAS (no longer in the mist): India and China. They are slipping into major recessions and doing so with vertiginous speed.
Meanwhile, back at OUR RANCH...
The U.S. slipping into a really deep depression. NOT!!
So much doom and gloom from our friends and non-friends, in the U.S. and abroad.
How funny is this: We all cut back on driving just a tad over 1% for two summer months. NOW, OPEC IS TALKING ABOUT THE GLOBAL IMPACT OF CRUDE PRICES CRASHING!
Well done, you all! Crash on!
Unemployment is tolerably low as are interest rates. Inflation, even in narrow “real” terms, is tolerable. GDP is growing well, thank you. Check out our balance of trades and drop a couple tears of joy.
Barns is not shedding tears over the so called “housing crisis.” WHAT A TUBO-CHARGED CROCK OF MANURE! YOU GOT A “LIAR LOAN!” YES, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! So...
1. YOU SHOULD BE FORECLOSED ON. You got a great ride for a year or two and likely came out ahead (after tax) then had you paid rent to somebody. YES! I MEAN YOU! Now, Barns and the rest of us will have to pay for your good fortune.
And ...
2. YOUR LENDER SHOULD GO TO JAIL. All those lying, cheating carpetbaggers belong in federal penitentiaries. The ones with real bars and revolting food and other heinous criminals. Rather, the bastards are ending up with massive golden parachutes and other disgusting exit compensation packages. You and Barns are paying for that!
Yes! We have a banking crisis in the U.S. The simplest suggestion is to limit foreign investment AND jail 45% of bank CEOs. How is this for a thought: discount the value of middle east investments and trade those at RETAIL for oil. Or else...... Barns is playing with the sexy concept of doing just that. Can you just hear the world press when we suck BACK a few trillion dollars from the Saudis and Yemenis and their brethren. And if nothing else, for entertainment value, off with Hugo Morales’ head! Figuratively at least.
That is Barns’ happy rant of the day. Off to overspend some more on everything in Europe. Not for long, though.
The EU caught a really nasty cold when the U.S. sneezed.
Expect the EU, Japan, the UK, India and China to get bedridden for while, until the Euro takes enough antibiotics to again do the trash dance with the ALLMIGHTY DOLLAR!!

If this is what you call a "sneeze"I'd hate to see what happens when the US catches a dose of the Flu!!As Self appointed and (As yet)unopposed World leader , the US Has to take into account what effects it's Economy's Health(or ill health) has on the rest of us, Because as you said "the US sneezes ,and the world catches a cold .....

The U.S. has an obligation to the rest of the world [related to this topic and your posts] how?
Beyond the self-imposed obligation to spend trillions on foreign aid ... mostly to countries that bite the U.S.'s hand with vigor, often and very publicly?
While on that, HOW PATHETIC IS IT WHEN THE U.S. GETS ITS BEHIND SPANKED BY ONE OF THOSE COUNTRIES GETTING FOREIGN AID FROM US AND ALL WE CAN DO IS THREATEN TO CUT OFF FOREIGN AID?
Of course, the U.S. seldom actually cuts off foreign aid.
Go figure.

I thought I was getting away with some comments ,A bit Toooo Easily or lightly.Back to topic, Opec are talking about cutting back production ,Opec leaders say "This is not to keep prices high" YEAH RIGHT!! Funny how this is announced as Oil hits $103Us a Barrel from a high of $160 a few weeks ago!!

Some of us elect to think the same way about the American consumer and its instrument of vengeance: THE AMERICAN ECONOMY.

Appears this "tiger" is waking up and is rather hungry.

Ah, Barns breaks his silence! You missed a lively couple of conventions. I hope you are correct about the economy. The real estate market seems to have experienced a "correction". If you run real estate prices over time through an "inflation calculator", it's not even close to reality.

Hardly missed those....
The first, bored Barns to COPIOUS TEARS. Just not into OVERHYPED ORATORY. Barns can deliver the same, essentially on demand, if he can be as shallow, pandering and specious as the candidates.
The SECOND was a standout inasmuch as it REGISTERED MUCH HIGHER ON THE BOREDOM SCALE.
But for Palin, who sucked thy air out of the latest OBAMAMANIA event, yawn.
