SIGNAL LEFT, TURN RIGHT: DRIVE CAREFULLY !!
Newsweek’s Editor, John Meacham, asks:
AMERICA THE CONSERVATIVE.
HOW A PRESIDENT OBAMA MIGHT GOVERN A CENTER-RIGHT NATION.
There is no question that America is center right. One need not look beyond abortion being (still) the premiere dysfunction causing social chasm in the U.S. No other civilized country in the world has this topic leading its national discourse.
There is no question that the Obama government, Obama-Pelosi-Reed government to be logistically accurate, is significantly left of center. Not to be confused with center-left.
Then there is the potentially cataclysmic perversion of global financial markets largely due to wanton and deliberate lack of regulations by governments everywhere.
Added up, we get a SOCIAL/POLITICAL/ECONOMIC WITCHES’ BREW THAT MAKES DYNAMITE LOOK LIKE PLAY DOUGH. What are we in for?
Four or eight years of another “Golden Age of Liberalism”?
A re-writing of the so-called “social contract”?
An involved and decision-making electorate that remains involved in this social and economic upheaval beyond the time when the present awful economic tides regress to the mean? Again?
A population that will by definition regress to an emotional mean and reflect on the social altering policies of the evolving age of liberalism? If so, what might those manifestations be?
Will the political teeter-totter swing wildly as the population regains its economic footing and again walks its inherently center-right path?
A witches’ brew, to be sure. And an exciting time for thinkers everywhere.
And Halloween scary.
What Do You Think?
SIGNAL LEFT, TURN RIGHT: DRIVE CAREFULLY !!

At least Clinton had New Gingrich to force through measures (ie Welfare reform) that Clinton could later take credit for. What will Obama do in an echo chamber of liberalism in both houses. Duck and cover everyone.!!

I think that 4 years from now the definitions of Conservative and Liberal are going to be quite different. The information age is taking care of that. Most people are going to look at political choices "a la carte" more and more. I know Republicans who are voting for Obama because of specific issues (namely protecting a woman's right to choose, which I think is the quiet issue this election).

It is not a quiet issue at all.
It is a screamer, at least for all the women Barns associates and speaks with.

I agree. 54% of the people are going to cry "But we didn't know THAT about him. That wasn't a headline BEFORE the election!" Change is what they are asking for and you know what they say about asking. Best to be careful!

on 11/02 at 10:14PM PTThe most glaring contrast is the quality of the two campaigns.
Never ever in the history of presidential politics did a freshman/novice/fundamentally lacking candidate mount such an amazing campaign.
This was George Bush's PLAYBOOK IN ITS ENTIRETY.
Never since my high school years have I seen a campaign as poorly thought out and even more pathetically executed as McCain's.
And then there was the final astounding faux pas: Palin.
It is astounding that a seasoned politico such as McCain can PANIC to that extent. To pick Palin to simply neutralize the Obama acceptance speech, to make such an ordinary marketing choice in such an astounding emotional manner is a critical failure of judgement.
Do we want his finger on the button?
Do we want Obama's finger on the button, assuming he knows where it is and WHERE IT IS that the button may be pointed at?
He now does. He just has NO HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE OR PERSPECTIVE.
Back to: Barns for President!
Or you, for that matter.....

Couldn't have said it better myself !!I don't think it was because Obama was the Best choice, More over that McCain and Palin were the WRONG choice, And If Mr Obama's victory speech is to be believed,We are about to enter a brave new world. Change is in the wind, Hopefully for the better Hopefully.....
