BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR ....

Reminds Barns of something brilliant said by his 16 year old, right after she walked away from what could have been a catastrophic auto accident, of her fault. Barns screamed at the top of his lungs:

WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?

She responded (rather calmly and thoughtfully):

CLEARLY I WAS NOT THINKING. HAD I BEEN THINKING, I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT!

There are a couple or three versions of the ending of the old refrain: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR. Same, really.

How interesting to search for the roots of that oft uttered refrain. Maybe lyrics in a children’s song. Maybe W.W. Jacobs in MONKEY’S PAW, a horror story. Maybe Edgar Allan Poe. Maybe your great, great grandfather.

And as apropos now, on the eve of the Presidential election, as when first written. By whoever.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! NO MATTER WHO YOU ELECT OUR NEXT COMMANDER IN CHIEF. You will find yourself quoting Barns’ daughter: CLEARLY I WAS NOT THINKING! HAD I BEEN THINKING, I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT!

Best of luck to us all, no matter the outcome.

What Do You Think?

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR ....

I am thinking of what my mum told us so many times. House guests are a lot like fish. Great for a day or two. After that best heave them out. They will smell up your place.

I was thinking that we need a big time change. I was also thinking that McCain was no change at all. The Palin move was stupid marketing. I want everybody to give Obama a chance to do the right things, whatever those are.

      Hey Pilgrim.

      Noble position.

What exactly do you see as the "right things to do" ?

A list, including all the social welfare promises would be fine.

Thankfully the election is finally over when the votes are counted tonight. No more campaiging, not more promises that are certain to be broken no mater who wins, no more name calling and no more noise on all channels and internet.
