WARNING: OBAMA FULFILLS A PROMISE!
President orders GITMO closed. A remarkably unthinking decision.
This is an emotional decision, made in a vacuum of thinking and planning. Somehow, in the next year, somebody is going to figure out what to do with those 245 MISANTHROPES, COMMITTED ENEMIES OF ALL NEAR AND DEAR TO US. COMMITTED ENEMIES to all moral touch points to all of us.
Well rested, well fed and better prepared then ever to kill as many of us as their preparation and opportunities will present.
Perhaps some fool like Congressman Murtha will figure this out. Or one of our “friends” in Europe will. Indeed. Some of our European friends will take them and free them as quickly as possible! If nothing else, to curry favor with the "bad guys."
To be sure, no nation in the Middle-East will ever want them back.
Of course, we are not likely to send them back to the Middle-East for fear that ALL OF THOSE COUNTRIES WILL SUMMARILY EXECUTE THEM!
Bringing them into the U.S. would be an untenable Hobson’s choice. To give those pariahs of mankind the same rights as you and I have is to pervert morality. They belong in the military justice system. They have all the rights afforded in THAT system.
And, know that THOSE rights are appropriate and more than sufficient. Certainly more than the rights they believe YOU HAVE WHILE THEY FEVERISHLY WORK ON FINDING WAYS TO INDISCRIMINANTLY KILL YOU AND ME AND YOUR FAMILY AND MINE AND .....
Our leaders must have loved that Kevin Costner movie: "If we build it, they will come." Regrettably, this is one of those topics that require a huge dose of reality, thinking and homework.

I do not think that the situation is a bad as seems. It is not like we are not going to keep tabs on these individuals and just let them roam free.

Oh yes. A good beginning to making the U.S. stronger and safer. Not to worry. The bailout plan will take care of everything, including wireless everywhere, free condoms to anybody who needs them and so on. No so much for the military.

It seems to me that there are more pressing issues to be addressed. What about the banking crisis The American financial system is effectively broken. I say let them rot in hell. They don't deserve to be handled thru our justice system - they have no regard for human life. Zebras don't change their stripes!

If they haven't been able to charge and try them in a court, let them go. Are we the USSR sending political prisoners to Siberia indefinitely with no charges, trial or anything? Sh** or get off the pot already.

on 01/27 at 03:50PM PTHey 'backbiter." Give this a read. This fine man, who was not charged while detained, fulfilled his promise in life - once we set him free.
He is one of many.... And many more to come.

What about the ones who haven't done anything and have been in jail with no due process at all? What country do we live in? I don't think I trust the government enough to let them decide anything without some sort of due process or check

And again what is your solution???? Past the incriminations and finger pointing. come up with solutions. Guess you propose to keep them forever?? How many other core principles would you have us give up? Fact is we only have the government's word on the validity of any charges. And this is the same group who sent of to war on weapons of mass destruction. SOLUTIONS!!!!

Is it your INFORMED assertion that the charges against the detainees at GITMO are just stuff made up by your lying, cheating, nefarious government?
Give us some authority. Perhaps you can make a list of the 245 prisoners there, how/why/where they were captured and why they are being held.
Then you and I will go over those one by one and .... Well, let us start with that.
As to the topics themselves, they ARE DESIGNED to get YOU involved. And, hopefully, thinking and sounding off.
