DOT-COM MY ROYAL [you-know-what], DOT-COM! Tweet on THAT for a while!

A couple years ago, on a loooooooooooong and tiring international flight from Central Europe to Los Angeles, Barns had a loooong and [moderately] interesting chat with a [moderately] interesting young “online expert”. As an aside, albeit really relevant, with due humility Barns, is among the original “experts” on matters Internet, WWW - online et al. Barns knows more than most and less then very few ....

Alas, many hours into the flight, Barns had his fill of the new age balderdash being [mindlessly] spewed by his seat-mate, DA “Internet Expert”. Finally, Barns elected to read from his thousands of unread pages in his Kindle rather than chat with DA “Internet Expert”. Barns [rudely] exclaimed: “Dot Com My Royal [you-know-what] Dot Com already!”

Of course, immediately upon arrival while in baggage claim at LAX, Barns called and asked his I.T. dude to register the domain name: “Dot Com My Royal [you-know-what] Dot Com.”

Of course, that domain name was registered years earlier.

So there ...

And this is in the news today: The U.S. military in Afghanistan is launching a Facebook page, a YouTube site and feeds on Twitter as part of a new communications effort to reach readers who get their information on the Internet rather than in newspapers, officials said Monday.

Does that not make your brown eyes blue?

How DO YOU FEEL ABOUT ALL THAT TWEETING AND LIVING ON FACEBOOK? And watching our President make major policy announcements on Tweeter and YouTube, and knowing if Shaq O’Neill is sitting or standing, if David Gregory (Meet The Press) is having mayo on his sandwich, that MaryJoe really loathes BobbySue, if Ashton Kutcher is wearing sunglasses (come now: 2 Million of you do!!) and Barns thinks Nancy Pelosi may be dumber than Joe Biden ..... and all that!

Oh... And of course you can follow Barns on Twitter at http://twitter.com/ctoadsbarns

Sound Off!

What were people saying about T.V. when it first entered people's homes??? CNN shrank the world to our T.V."s. Now the internet...I guess I will have to figure out the in's and outs of tweeter.

I am amazed at the new communication mediums that constantly appear . I understand that this is a primitive communication form to some but this allows more communications between people now then ever. That is a good thing. Marriage counselor say lack of communication is the # 1 problem they encounter... human/political/religious conflict is often caused by this problem... open and free communication = Solution to conflicts? It is at least a start

You think Twitter has socially redeeming value? The best thing about Twitter is the reality that 99%+ of all that mindless drivel is not read by anybody. The people who spend countless hours reading the minutia and irrelevant aspects of other people's lives need a life of their own.

Twitter ended up being a powerful communications tool during the No on 8 protests here in LA. The street protests were directed in large part by people tweeting with hand held devices. It's not just a one way conversation.

Twitter is like any other form of media...if you don't dig it, don't use it. It's going to be interesting to see how they end up monetizing it.

Ah, the money question. This is one of the most, if not the most, important part of the discussion about new mediums of communication. Thank you for bringing this up. I would like to here your thought on the issue of these new mediums becoming viable and bankable options

Well, I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, the US Military should have the convenience and distraction of twittering, after all they are out there risking their live for our safety. On the other hand, I couldn't care less what the celebs are doing, when they are doing it, how they are doing and who they are doing it with.
